Episode 4 – Three Great Applications for Students – App Central

I’m certainly not the ideal one to testify for this, being that I’m only a teenager, but it’s pretty safe to say that many things have changed from the “good ol’ days,” and that certainly includes the way we learn and study.

As a student myself, devices like the iPad and similar tablet devices make it much easier in engaging students-alike, not to mention making our backpacks much lighter.  Best part of it all, these three applications are free!

MATH – FREE GRAPHING CALCULATOR – For iPad – Ideal for students Grade 10-12

This great application is ideal for the students studying mathematics.  It is jam-packed with features including:

  • A scientific calculator, with all of the features any student would need;
  • A Graphing calculator, allowing you to graph up to four equations at once;
  • Full featured graphs — Graphs are labeled, you can drag the graph or pinch to zoom in or out, and the calculator can find roots and intersections;
  • Unit converter
  • A full-fledged formula back, allowing you to find many common formulas (i.e. quadratic, linear, vector, etc.)

SCIENCE/GEOGRAPHY – WORLD EXPLORER – For iPad – Ideal for students Grade 7-12

This application is phenomenal in the sense that it brings a unique way to discover interesting places around you, and all around the World, right from the comfort of your own iPad!

You can search any place in the World, take a virtual walk through the streets, courtesy of Google Maps, and learn about many monuments and landmarks that exist around your chosen destination.

If you love to learn facts, there are many great articles from over 350,000 locations, allowing you to take a virtual tour of the world, or even study for an upcoming geography test!

FRENCH – eFLASH FRENCH – For iPad – Ideal for students Grade 4-7

Il y a quelque chose pour tout le monde!  Translation, “there’s something for everyone,” even younger students studying French!

eFlash French is great for students just starting to learn what can be a really hard language.  The application utilizes the touch-interface to make a familiar and fun experience for everyone to learn.  The app is kid-tested with 9 categories from food to animals, large words and letters and real sounds where appropriate to help the students along — General consensus: they love it!

If you’re a parent with a child, there’s a question mode you can enable, allowing you to ask the child a question, and tap the app to reveal the answer; hours of fun and learning!
