Hotels focus on millennials through green initiatives, tech

A new study says millennials are a focus demographic for hotels and lodging brands.

Companies are evolving in their offerings from technology to green initiatives, mindful of our environment, according to a report from the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA).

“The hotel and lodging industry is paving the way in innovation as evidenced by STR’s latest trend survey,” president and CEO of AHLA Chip Rogers said.

The survey looked at hotels and lodging to analyze trends in the industry and how guest experience is being elevated.

The report found millennials are once again shifting the way we look at things, from driving the importance for community (shared work spaces, lounges), to networking opportunities. Health is also become a focus area, opting for better options from vegetarian to alternative dietary offerings.

Green initiatives is another popular trend, according to the AHLA. 25 per cent of properties in the U.S. are green certified, underscoring the importance for sustainability.

Last, but not surprisingly, mobile apps are increasing in priority. Having hotel services at a touch of a button is changing the way guests are interacting with hotels and amenities.
