Rescuer’s camera on Viking Sky shows passengers being airlifted to safety

New video posted by The Guardian shows footage from the rescuer’s vantage point as over a thousand passengers are airlifted to safety from aboard the Viking Sky this weekend.

The camera was on the rescue worker’s helmet, where one by one they had to board each passenger on the helicopter.

“The evacuations took place in extremely difficult conditions. Norwegian media reported gusts of up to 38 knots (43 mph) and waves over eight metres (26ft) in an area known for its rough, frigid waters,” reported The Guardian.

Norwegian media reports said upwards of 20 people had to be treated for injuries.
