Airbnb to ban guests under 25 from booking entire homes

After a deadly shooting in Toronto that left three dead, two others insured, short-term rental website Airbnb says they will be restricting entire home rentals in an effort to increase security.

The new policy will ban guests under the age of 25 from booking entire homes, while they can still book private rooms within a host’s primary residence.

This comes after a trend of house parties have left homes trashed, or “instances of unauthorized parties” have left private properties and people at risk.

The website, however, relies on user information to be accurate and verified, and Airbnb is aware of users trying to “circumvent systems.”

In addition, Airbnb will be introducing a “24/7 neighbourhood support telephone hotline” in Canada with a goal of connecting residents with agents to help address situations as they arise.
