Fairmont Royal York gets 90th anniversary makeover

A landmark in Toronto is receiving a very deserving makeover, just in time for its 90th birthday.

First opened in 1929, the Fairmont Royal York is in the final stages of its multi-year, multi-phase renovation, that aims to overhaul the customer experience from check-in to check-out.

As part of improvements, guests will now see:

A new lobby with improved check-in flow, mirroring a style that will pay homage to Toronto past and present.

Designer Rockwell Group says it’s “a contemporary, modern escape that feels timeless. Given the hotel’s connection to the railway and Toronto’s Union Station, material, form and detail cues were inspired by the aesthetics of train cars and railroads.”

Additionally, the space will be larger, lined with marble stairs and ramp that leads visitors to the check-in areas.

Fairmont’s executive chef, jW Foster, has designed four new signature dining concepts that will overhaul the hotel’s food and beverage offerings.

“Over the next few months, we cannot wait to unveil the exceptional cuisine and share the vision behind what will be among the city’s hottest culinary destinations,” said Foster. “Guests can expect a bold, modern and authentic essence in the new menus, capturing the next level of dining in Toronto while still honouring the hotel’s rich food history and renowned service.”

A new Fairmont Gold offering will include a new Fairmont Gold Residents’ Lounge, reservations, and elegant suites.

“Curated by Champalimaud, a leading global tastemaker in hospitality interiors, the redefined Fairmont Gold encapsulates the building’s timelessness and speaks to the energy of the city.”

Legacy Suites: Two new legacy suites will be unveiled this summer. “Incorporating downtown Toronto’s cosmopolitan grandeur with sophisticated, residential-style living, the hotel transforms its two most notable signature suites into the city’s defining luxury experience.” It will marry charm, metropolitan lifestyle with personalized service.

Meeting and events space: These areas will also receive updates to modernize their look and function, including wedding spaces.
