The head of one of America’s largest airlines, Delta, wants to win customers over by implementing free Wi-Fi.
In an interview with Barron’s, Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian said they are investing billions to overhaul all parts of their business—to modernize and improve customer experience at all touch points.
The majority of their aircrafts now have high-speed Gogo Wi-Fi, with the rest scheduled for installation soon, and it costs $16 per day for flights in North America. An annual pass is available for $599.
“Our goal is to make Wi-Fi free with high-speed quality,” Bastian said. “It will take another year or two to make that happen.”
Delta has made significant inroads on customer experience, from implementing biometric technology curb-side to gate in Atlanta, to easing points redemptions for upgrades, through overhauling terminals at New York-LaGuardia and Los Angeles.
“We think our future is bright and the valuation of the stock is cheap,” he said to Barron’s. “Our strategy is to become a trusted consumer brand and not just an airline.”
