WestJet updated the public on its plans for the 13 Boeing 737 MAX-8 aircrafts Wednesday.
The planes will be removed from its flight schedules as of March 25, and the change will remain in place through April 31.
This follows Canada’s restriction on the Boeing plane after two fatal crashes months apart in Indonesia and Ethiopia have left nations concerned for the safety of the MAX-8.
“We are closely in contact with Boeing, Transport Canada and other regulators to understand how and when to safely reintroduce the MAX-8 aircraft into service,” WestJet said. “WestJet remains unrelenting in putting safety at the forefront and will thoroughly evaluate processes, procedures and any further required training before these aircraft once again take to the skies.”
Transport Canada says they are monitoring the investigation closely and that it will “balance further extension of a revised schedule.”
WestJet says the majority of its customers originally booked on a MAX-8 aircraft have been booked with “little to no changes” to their plans.
