A new report from CruiseCritic.com says Norwegian Cruise Line is making a call to cut back on towel animals in some of their ships, while reducing the numbers on others.
This, in a move to be “responsible corporate citizens” will benefit the environment and cut back resources to clean unnecessary towels.
Often, towels are smiled at, but then thrown on the floor, unused, and go back into the wash with other linens, and NCL wants to reduce the amount of laundry needed, therefore less energy.
“We are committed to being a responsible corporate citizen by fostering a culture of awareness and respect for our world’s resources,” Norwegian spokesperson said to Cruise Critic. “Our mission is to continually improve our sustainability culture through fresh innovation, progressive education and open collaboration.”
It is unclear whether this is in effect immediately and which ships this new policy will be rolled out to.
“As such, from time to time, we explore opportunities to expand our efforts,” the statement said. “In this instance, we are assessing the impact of reducing the number of towel animals we showcase aboard a few of our ships. We understand that many of our guests enjoy them as part of the experience of cruising with us, so towel animals remain available upon request.”
