American Express renews relationship with Air Canada

Aeroplan American Express cardholders can rest knowing their cards will extend past 2020 when Air Canada launches their new loyalty program.

Canada’s largest airline announced Thursday that they’ve renewed their partnership with American Express in anticipation of Air Canada’s new loyalty program launching in 2020. The new 10-year agreements will include co-branded credit cards, including American Express Membership Rewards, and commercial cooperation.

“We are delighted to be expanding the nature of our partnership with Air Canada and look forward to issuing a suite of new consumer and business Cards in 2020 that harness the expertise of both our brands to deliver uncompromised value,” said Rob McClean, President & CEO of Amex Bank of Canada.

When Air Canada entered in the joint deal with TD, CIBC, and Visa Canada, there was question whether American Express would be left out of the new loyalty program.

This deal maintains, if not, expands the existing relationship, as the two companies will reported work “more closely in strategic areas such as premium customer experience, digital integration, member analytics, and incremental partnership opportunities.”

Members will maintain ability to transfer their Membership Rewards points to Air Canada once the program launches.

For now, it’s business as usual with Aeroplan.
