‘Extreme gust of wind’ causes Norwegian Escape to list, injures several passengers

Passengers on a Norwegian Escape cruise hit some rough waters, injuring several passengers in “a sudden, extreme gust of wind,” according to the cruise line.

The ship was navigating through unexpected winds of approximately 100 knots, or 185 kilometres per hour, causing the ship to list. Norwegian Escape left New York on Sunday and was on its way to Port Canaveral Tuesday.

Upon arrival Tuesday morning just before noon, Brevard County Fire was on hand to assess injuries or passengers.

The Norwegian Escape has a capacity of 4,266 guests and 1,733 crew.

There were no damages to the ship and the itinerary is expected to continue per plan.
